Blog monetization methods

You have a blog and you are wondering how you can make money from it or in other words monetize it, then no worries. In this article, I have covered different methods for monetizing a blog. The question “What are blog monetization methods?” was asked on Quora on 19 June 2016 and I initially provided an answer they. Below is a detailed version of my answer:

1. Adsense

You can apply to show Google Ads on your blog. Build a nice website and sign up for the Google AdSense services. Make sure to follow Google’s instructions and guidelines. After approval of your blog or website, Google would give you a code and then you can place in different areas where you want the Ads to display.

2. Affiliate Marketing

You can become an affiliate and promote different kinds of products on your blog. You put a link to a product that is for sale on another site (for example Amazon) and if someone follows your link and ends up buying the product, you earn a commission on the sale. If you choose to use a program like Amazon Associates, you are required to state clearly that you an affiliate and that you would earn money through the program on your blog. Something like “This website is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to This means that if you follow a link to and make a purchase within 24 hours, I will receive a small percentage of what you pay to Amazon (but your price will stay exactly the same).”

3. Display Ads yourself

If your blog becomes popular and getting high traffic, people can pay you to advertise their business on your blog. I know a successful blogger who writes about different gadgets such as iPhones. On his blog, he sells Ads Space to different companies.

4. You can seek sponsorship

You can present your traffic situation to a sponsor (could be a company), and if it’s good enough, then they can pay you to advertise their services.

5. Paid membership

You basically offer a service for free and if the user wants more, then they create an account. They pay doing so. For example, TopResume would give you the opportunity to first submit your resume for free which would be reviewed by a resume expert and an applicant tracking system. Now if you want them to write a resume for you and get detailed answers and help from their resume expert, then you have to buy a plan (Professional Growth – $129, Career Evolution – $189 and Executive Priority – $349)

6. You can also sell your own products on your blog.

If you have a service or product, then your blog is also a good place to sell it. Some people use their blog to sell their ebooks, courses, software, reports etc. Others offer coaching, consulting and mentoring services etc.

These are just a few ways to monetize your blog. You can be successful using any of the strategies above if done right. With Google AdSene, you can make a significant amount only if the traffic to your blog is high.  Do you know any other method that is not listed here, please share it in the comments.
